A New Take on an Understated Classic

FRIIS & MOLTKE was founded in 1954 by Knud Friis & Elmar Moltke Nielsen. The two architects became known for their designs of private homes and large-scale buildings, such as hotels, schools and cultural institutions. In the 60s, they introduced a Danish interpretation of brutalism, characterized by grand buildings in raw concrete that embed themselves into the surrounding landscape. FRIIS & MOLTKE’s furniture, the Nordsø Series is designed to fit into the honest and uncompromising architecture that became their hallmark.

The collection channels the spirit of the 1970s – a time of new social communities and a freer way of living. With its quiet strength and stripped-back aesthetic, the design demands quality materials and expert craftsmanship.

A recent addition to the series is the round Nordsø table. With its compact dimensions and circular form, the table is ideal for more intimate settings: quiet corners, private homes, or smaller meeting rooms. While the long rectangular version commands space, the round table invites closeness and calm – offering the same sense of presence, but on a more personal scale.

The Nordsø Series is defined by its distinctive pillar legs – 8 cm in diameter – and solid 6 cm thick tops and seats. The shapes are generous yet softened by rounded edges, resulting in a presence that is warm, grounded, and confidently understated.

Though subtle in scale, the round Nordsø table shares the same DNA: bold in material, honest in construction, and deeply rooted in the Danish design tradition. It’s furniture that encourages conversation, connection, and a sense of belonging – whether placed in a home, a café, or a quiet office space.

Nordsø is produced in native wood species from Northern Europe, ensuring the shortest possible distance to the Danish production.

Ivan Hansen, Co-founder of OC (OneCollection), says:

“Over the years, we have collaborated with the FRIIS & MOLTKE studio on various projects. Therefore, it feels both special and right for us to relaunch these pieces from the 70s, which we believe are more relevant than ever. The design language represents a step in a new and exciting direction for us, all while being fully in line with our vision to preserve the Danish design tradition and craftsmanship heritage. This is furniture where everything is stripped down to the essentials, and that is actually one of the most challenging aspects. It requires extremely high standards, both in terms of design and production, when the construction is so open and honest.”
